It’s no surprise how much streaming has taken grip over the world, including sports. And Netflix’s F1 blockbuster “Drive to Survive” is the premium example of them all. The grippy show that unravels the tricky backstory and behind-the-scenes of the very competitive sport has taken the world by storm. After the success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, many sports are willing to stride the similar path. Reason? To bring back the grip, worldwide and into the United States.

The success of Drive to Survive has been monumental for Formula 1’s revival around the globe, especially in the United States. As per reports, American favorites like the NFL, Golf, and Tennis are willing to go on the same million-dollar route, and most importantly, they are to be made by the same producers as of Drive to Survive.

As per Wired, Netflix is due to release two more similar series in 2023. Both are yet to be named as they are currently called the untitled Tennis series and untitled Golf series. As for the NFL, Netflix is set to bring out The Greatest Roast of All Time: GROAT based on Tom Brady.

Now undergoing its fifth season, the makers of Drive to Survive confirmed the sixth season as well in the coming years. As it stands, the formula to success has finally found its way to other sports as well. It’ll be interesting to see if they get the same success as well as the same traction as Drive to Survive and its marketing blueprint.

How did Drive to Survive act as an impetus for F1 growth in the United States?

Primarily a country of NASCAR, F1 wasn’t very popular in the United States until recent times. A country known for its sports such as NFL, NBA, or MLB, F1 found it quite hard to find a grip in the North American country. However, thanks to Netflix and its Drive to Survive, Formula 1 has seen enormous growth in the country off late.

From having one race per season, the US is all set to welcome three races in 2023. With Miami Grand Prix and Austin Grand Prix already included, the new entrant, Las Vegas will mark its debut in 2023. Moreover, the amount of viewership has increased multiple folds.

According to Statista, around 29 percent of fans in the United States felt more engaged in the sport than before. Around 30 percent of fans understood the sport after they watched the series and interestingly, 34 percent became fans after they watched the show. All in all, the impact has been staggering.

However, the Drive to Survive series has also faced its part of criticism. F1’s defending champion Max Verstappen has pointed out and has been visibly unhappy with how things have unfolded in the series. The unusual tension and rivalry brought out in the series were objected to. However, they were, at times, delightful to watch for the fans.
