After causing a huge controversy last year by joining the LIV Tour, Brooks Koepka is back with a bang in the PGA Championship. The PGA Tour handed him a suspension following his decision to join the LIV Golf, but he has now answered his critics with aplomb. The Floridian fought his heart out at the Oak Hill Country Club to take the winner’s trophy home. As congratulations were in order, an American F1 sensation joined Koepka’s wife Jena Sims to laud his fellow American.

Koepka battled it out against the likes of Scottie Scheffler and trumped him by a slim margin to take the top spot. How much worth was the first-place check, you ask? A whopping, $3.15 million, which is also a tournament record. Scottie took home a sweet deal for himself as well, with a $1.54 million for T2, a place he shared with Norwegian Viktor Hovland. Rory McIlroy, who disappointingly finished T7, took home a $555,000 check.

The recent win was Koepka’s 5th major championship win, the first since 2019. He has created history by becoming the first LIV Tour golfer to win a major title. Brooks posted a picture of himself holding the trophy on Instagram with the caption: “I Got 5 on It 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆”

Brooks’ fellow Floridian and F1 rookie sensation Logan Sargeant appeared in the comments as well. The newest addition to the Williams family exclaimed, Congratulations man. Love to see it 🙌🔥”

What Koepka said after the iconic win

Koepka was coming at the back of a serious knee injury ahead of the PGA Championship. Not winning any major tournament since 2019 took a toll of its own and then the backlash he got for joining the LIV tour piled on the pressure even more. There certainly was a lot to prove, and he did.

Speaking at the press conference following the win, he said, “I think this one is probably the most meaningful of them all with everything that’s gone on, all the crazy stuff over the last few years.”

“But it feels good to be back and to get No. 5.”

Talking about whether he feels his victory will help LIV members, he said, “I definitely think it helps LIV, but I’m more interested in my own self right now, to be honest with you.”
