Ever since our lockdown struggles were eased by Netflix’s Drive to Survive, the effect of a docuseries in connecting fans to the sport has proven to be quite beneficial not just for Liberty Media and Netflix, but also for the drivers. While the effect on them may not have included huge paychecks, the burst in their popularity worldwide has indirectly upped their brand value.

The same goes for the PGA Tour players, who’ve had a chance to shine outside the greens after Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’ docuseries joined Drive to Survive in the list of successful sports collaborations for the streaming giant. This is why it comes as no surprise that Netflix announced the first-ever Netflix Cup! A sports tournament that aims to combine global superstars from Formula 1 and Golf in a heated battle at the Wynn Golf Club, ahead of the Las Vegas GP!

There are four drivers from Drive to Survive and four golfers from Full Swing forming a team with each other to compete for bragging rights. Lando Norris is paired alongside Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa leads Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon teams up with Max Homa, and last but not least, Carlos Sainz joins forces with Justin Thomas.

And of course, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris’ bromance turns into a rivalry in this ‘Love Island’ inspired promo which turned ‘Too Hot to Handle’ for some, but the McLaren bromance’s witty lines left the fans bursting with laughter once again.

Within the first few seconds of the reel, Morikawa combined the gas and brake with a romantic twist which left a fan questioning what had just happened, I thought this was a dating show for a moment

It looks like Netflix’s lovestruck approach has worked wonders with the crowd, introducing new fans to the wonderful sport of Golf, “I do not know jacksh*t about golf, will I be tuning in? you bet” – After all, who can resist Sainz and Norris’s content?

In reference to Lando Norris’ one-liner, this user couldn’t help but compliment his smooth operation,“‘ruthless on the track but romantic on the green’ modern-day Shakespeare if you ask me”

With Carlos Sainz adding some spice to the mix with his pick-up line, another fan was just beginning to get excited for the content that’s about to come out of the Wynn Golf Club, “This is gonna be a spicy bromantic grid on Las Vegas @landonorris”

Whilst Alex Albon delivered a classic fast-paced in-the-bed F1 driver joke, the McLaren boys had one-upped their compatriots and possibly the golfers too, rightfully pointed out by this user,  “Carlos and Lando know what the people want”

And although the drivers tried to deliver Oscar-worthy performances, there was no hiding from the honesty of this fan – “Couldn’t be more cringe and I LOVE IT”. Another took on the role of being the director, adding their own pun into the mix, “These professional golfers were looking for something outside the box, box”.
