Netflix has become the single biggest reason why sports like Formula 1 have the global acclaim they enjoy today. Before Netflix’s foray into the world of F1, the sport was enjoying a decent viewership. However, since the advent of the ‘Drive to Survive’ series, the global reach of the sport has risen meteorically. Naturally, the streaming service ventured into other sports too, such as Tennis and Golf. Now, after shelling out $5,000,000 every season on F1, they’ve planned a massive crossover with Lewis Hamilton and company!

Full Swing is DTS but make it Golf. Debuting in 2023, the series follows the same format as Drive to Survive but follows the lives of professional Golfers on and off the course as they compete in the highly acclaimed PGA championship.

Drivers like Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris have shown themselves to be Golf aficionados. And Full Swing has been getting its fair share of attention, too. Hence, according to credible reports, the streaming service is teeing up for something massive.

According to the F1 Man, Vincenzo Landino, “Netflix’s latest move could be a hole-in-one. Their plan to organize and broadcast a celeb golf tournament featuring ‘Drive to Survive’ and ‘Full Swing’ stars is quite brilliant.” However, there may be a catch.

He continued, “Should the live sports venture not prove fruitful for Netflix, the company can minimize potential losses and communicate to investors that it was a low-risk experiment that didn’t significantly impact shareholder value.”

Netflix is skeptical about venturing into full-blown live sports. And Formula 1’s to blame for it.

The streaming company wants to capitalize on this growing trend of interest in sports, such as Formula 1. However, the company does believe that currently, these rights are being valued too high for their liking.

F1 is the perfect example. According to reports, “Netflix has been exploring live sports streaming for more than a year. It previously bid for live US streaming rights to Formula 1, but reportedly lost out to ESPN. It has also supposedly explored bidding on rights for tennis, cycling and other lower-profile sports.”
