What is it about Daniel Ricciardo and races in Italy? We saw an incredible performance by the Australian in Monza last year where he started fifth and finished the sprint in third. That set the platform for his drive to the checkered flag. The Australian’s podium finish with Renault during the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was also impressive.
We are confident F1 fans will remember Ricciardo’s ‘shoey’ celebration on the podium in Monza and Imola.

In the 2022 season, Ricciardo had yet another memorable outing in Italy. The McLaren driver gave his fans a moment to savor in the sprint race in Imola. Although he finished P6 yesterday, his move on Kevin Magnussen down the inside will serve as a reminder of why the 32-year-old is one of the most talented drivers on the grid. It was a classic Daniel Ricciardo move as well.

Daniel Ricciardo man. What a long way he’s come. His results don’t reflect how he has definitely been the fastest McLaren driver all weekend but FUCK I can’t wait for tomorrow.

Daniel Ricciardo is content with P6 in the sprint race
After a solid qualifying on Friday, Ricciardo faced a mechanical issue in FP2. As a result, his first outing on the dry Imola track was the sprint race. He started the race in a blistering fashion and jumped into P5 after his move on Kevin Magnussen. However, Ferrari’s pace meant Sainz overtook the Australian in the end.
Speaking about the sprint race, Ricciardo said, “I didn’t really know what to expect for the Sprint because we haven’t really had dry running this weekend. With the issue in practice this morning, it was really just a ‘go out and see what we got’ situation. I felt like I had a good start, so I was looking ahead.”

He did have contact with Magnussen early on, but fortunately, there was no damage inflicted. The McLaren driver also revealed he struggled with the tires in the end, but a P5 and P6 certainly pleased him.

He added, “I tried to settle into a rhythm, and I think we struggled a bit towards the end with the tyres but other than that it was pretty good and we scored some points.”
