Mick Schumacher won the F2 championship at the end of the 2020 season. But before winning the title, he joined F1 with Haas and not Alfa Romeo. As Schumacher chose Haas over Alfa Romeo, it meant that the Swiss team could secure their Italian driver Giovinazzi for the 2021 season.

We all know that our motorsport partner Ferrari is entitled to a decide: Zehnder
According to Formula Passion, Giovinazzi’s manager Beat Zehnder mentioned that the future of both drivers is in hands of Ferrari. He also stated that it would be logical to have an Italian in the Italian brand Alfa Romeo.
“We all know that our motorsport partner [Ferrari] would be entitled to decide who to entrust a steering wheel to. It is also true, however, that on an Alfa Romeo, an Italian car, it makes sense to have an Italian driver, ” said Zehnder.
He also gave his insights on Antonio’s performances this season, “This year, anything can still happen, but Antonio is doing very well, showing great progress also on a mental level.
“He has always been very good in qualifying and now he is proving to be an improved rider also on Sunday,” said Giovinazzi’s manager.
Zehnder concluded by saying, “I repeat – he concluded – it is more logical to have an Italian driver in the team.”
