Lewis Hamilton arrived at Mercedes to partner with his best friend, Nico Rosberg. The biggest teammate rivalry of our times unfolded when the dominant duo fought for championships and tried to defeat each other. Their constructor, Mercedes, who delivered a car that was faster than the rest of the field, felicitated this. Now we can see the same story unfolding at Red Bull where the drivers, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, are leading the championship only separated by 6 points. But can Perez pull a Rosberg on Verstappen?

Anthony Davidson of Sky believes that it is time for Sergio Perez to stop being the “Mister Nice Guy” and take a leaf out of Nico’s book from 2016 when he finally defeated Hamilton. While we are familiar with the lengths to which Rosberg went to defeat the mighty Briton, Perez is being asked to follow a similar path of sacrifices. Telling Perez to annoy Max Verstappen, Davidson told Sky Sports, as quoted by F1Maximaal, “He has to get under Verstappen’s skin, he has to irritate him. This is his moment, it may just be his only chance. I think he knows it, and we all know it too. He’s so close, just six points behind after four races and he’s looking strong. I don’t think he can pull it off if he stays ‘Mister Nice Guy’ this year.”

While Perez is being asked to learn from Rosberg, Max Verstappen was asked to learn from Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen suffered damage in lap 1 of the sprint when George Russell nicked his position, reacting better to start lights. However, a huge uproar unfolded later when the duo got involved in a spat, with Verstappen eventually calling him a “Di**head”. And while this is already being looked down upon, Verstappen has now been advised to be a bit more patient, like how Lewis conducted himself.

Davidson further added, “He can still get better at that, and that’s quite frightening for the competition because he’s already so good. He has to learn from this and look at Lewis (Hamilton, ed.). He sometimes gave up his position because he knew he had the car to win back this place. He needs to see the bigger picture.”
