Max Verstappen has been a vocal opposer of the Sprint race even after he dominated the detour of the original racing format last year. The Dutchman even threatened that he will not stay around for a longer time if the basic DNA of Formula 1 kept changing. While the world was a bit skeptical about the standalone sprint Saturday, what unfolded between Max and his new Mercedes rival George Russell wasn’t on the forecast. And now an F1 Pundit has given his analysis of the spat.

Louis Dekker, F1 analyst, and reporter is of the opinion that Russell, who has had a few battles with the Dutchman last year, paid close attention during the Media day on Thursday. He believes Verstappen, yet again opposing the format, had stated that the cost-benefit of a few points versus the probable damage which can be sustained is not worth the risk. And the analyst has now zeroed in on the fact that everyone heard this declaration, even Russell.

As quoted by F1 Maximaal, Dekker said, “Then I immediately thought that the other drivers hear that too. Russell knew that, and of course, he puts him next to it.” He added, “It’s funny then that Verstappen says he doesn’t care, but he flares up old-fashioned after the race when it’s about a few glimmer points.”

And while this started brewing on Thursday, all hell broke loose on Verstappen in the following days after his verbal battle with Russell.

Max Verstappen called out for his hypocrisy

F1 journalist Will Buxton called out Max Verstappen when the latter had a literal meltdown after a first-lap battle with George Russell. Verstappen, who has always gone for the gap, especially when he was battling Lewis Hamilton, has now decided to call out the latter’s teammate for doing the same.

Buxton spoke for everyone when he said, “It’s a bit rich, isn’t it of himself? You know, Max Verstappen saying a driver’s taking some unnecessary risks. Max has made a career out of putting in gutsy moves, getting his elbows out. You know, getting down and dirty, running wheel to wheel with people. He’s fought drivers hard his entire career but he doesn’t like being raced hard himself. Particularly not when he’s fighting for a championship and I think that really showed today.”
