George Russell will join the Mercedes AMG team from the next season. The young Brit has impressed everyone with his driving skills and his pace in Saturday qualifying. But Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has mentioned that Russell has not yet started working with the team.
With major changes coming in the 2022 season, Russell would like to start working with Mercedes as soon as possible. But the German team mentioned that currently, they are focused on the 2021 season.

But we haven’t started yet: Toto Wolff
As reported by PlanetF1, the Austrian stated they will start working on the next season in the autumn. He also mentioned the team does not want to interfere or jeopardize this season.
“Over the autumn, we’re going to slowly but surely collaborate more without ever jeopardizing or interfering into the current championship. But we haven’t started yet,” said Wolff.
Wolff also provided an update on when can Russell start working with the team. “We need to respect that George is still a Williams driver and needs to do the utmost for Williams to climb up the ranks in the Constructors’ Championship, and he’s done a good job so far.
And we have Valtteri and Lewis. They are our drivers,” said Wolff.

Williams’ team boss not worried about George Russell

Williams team principal Jost Capito mentioned he is not worried by the fact that Russell has an eye on the next season with the German team. He also stated that they have also not started working with their drivers for the next season.
“He’s doing his job preparing the races and preparing for the rest of the season. Of course… there’s nothing changed after the decision that he’s at Mercedes next year,” said Capito.

Russell has scored 16 points with the British team and has helped the team jump up to eighth in the constructor’s championship this season.
