George Russell has recently opened up on his favorite Grand Prix. The new Mercedes recruit has three circuits in mind where he would love to conquer. In an interview with the British GQ, the 24-year-old expressed his desire.

Russell has been picked up by Mercedes this season to replace Valtteri Bottas. The Brit is at Brackley on a multi-year contract. With Russell partnering with Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes expects to retain their Constructor’s Championship this year.

When asked about the three Grand Prix Russell would like to win, he conveyed, “Got to be Silverstone, a home race for sure. Love the crowd, love the circuit. Obviously my home event. So Silverstone without a doubt.”

“I would say Monaco that is a clear favorite for all the drivers. And then I’d probably say Monza. I think the podium there is just incredible, the Italian Grand Prix. Crazy fans all support, or mainly supporting Ferrari. But just a spectacular podium and would be an incredible experience. So they’re my three.“, concluded the former Williams driver.

George comes into Mercedes with high expectations. The team in return expects big from him as well. No doubt they let long-time faithful Bottas go to make a place for him. Russell in fact believes that he’ll soon be on the winning ways with the German team.

The start has been quite good for the new Mercedes recruit. After qualifying in P9 in Saturday’s qualification, a brilliant drive from him fetched a P4 finish at Bahrain Grand Prix. The very first race as a Mercedes full-time driver and 12 points in the bag is indeed a commendable start.

However, Russell stated that he wants to have more importance in the team as he thinks inter-team competition is better than competing with others for personal development. The Mercedes man wants to fight with Lewis Hamilton and not Ferraris or Red Bulls in the new season. It’ll be interesting to see how things unfold for him in 2022.
