Red Bull and Mercedes have been going at each other through the whole season. There is only a gap of 1 point between them in the championship, with just 4 races to go. However, Williams driver George Russell believes that Red Bull should have already won the championship.

The Mercedes-bound driver stated that the Austrian team has had the faster car for most of the season. He also praised the Mercedes team and Lewis Hamilton for staying in the championship and fighting till the end.

It’s Red Bull’s championship to lose: George Russell

As reported by Reddit, in his interview with rtbf, the young Brit gave his take on the championship fight between Red Bull and Mercedes. Russell mentioned that right now is Red Bull‘s championship to lose.

“I mean, I’m sure Mercedes and Lewis are probably more relaxed than Red Bull because, at the moment, it’s Red Bull’s championship to lose,” said Russell.

“You know it’s clear they have the fastest car this season, and it’s quite incredible Mercedes and Lewis are still in the fight because when you look at the pace, Red Bull should have had this championship already won.”

“So anything can happen, and it’s all very close. For sure, Red Bull has a faster car. If they will win is another story,” explained the Williams driver.

The Williams driver mentions it is unprofessional to think about Mercedes

George Russell will move to Mercedes after the end of the 2021 season. He stated he is currently focused on his job at Williams. He also mentioned it would be unprofessional of him to think of Mercedes right now.

“Obviously, I get asked a lot of questions regarding the Mercedes move next year, but I think it is unprofessional if I start thinking ahead too quick or too early. I am giving as much effort into this season and the remaining races as I ever have,” said Russell.

It’s interesting to know that the young Brit is still so focused on his current job. Although we are all waiting for a showdown between Hamilton and Russell next season.
