George Russell Sheds Light on the Instrumental Role His Parents Played for Him to Reach F1

From becoming Formula 2 champion with ART in 2018 to securing his maiden Formula 1 podium, George Russell has come a long way in his career. During the interview with the German media outlet, Bild, George Russell, recalls the role played by his parents during his go-karting days.

“My father would often work early in the morning and come home late. But as soon as he got home on Friday evening, we jumped into the car and went karting,” said Russell.

Russell opens up on how he arranged himself a seat at Williams

George Russell, who joined the Wantage-based team in 2019 on a three-year contract, recalled how he initiated talks with then Williams’ team principal, Claire Williams, to arrange himself a drive at the pinnacle of motor racing.

“I went to the hospitality area and asked to meet Claire (Williams, then team principal). This mentality has helped me a lot on my way,” told Russell.

“My parents always said you had to work hard for your dreams. You only get back from life what you give. Formula 1 is so far away, you have to reach for the stars. If you don’t always give 120 percent, you have no chance,” concluded the young Brit driver.

Russell has been in a red hot form since the start of the second half of the season. The 23-year-old has never scored a point for Williams before the Hungarian GP and now he has made a habit of finishing in the top 10. In addition, Russell also secured his maiden podium finish for the Wantage-based team at the Spa-Francorchamps.
