George Russell is all set to start a new adventure with the mighty Silver Arrows team. He will partner up with Lewis Hamilton, hoping to bring the 9th consecutive constructors’ title to Brackley. The team launched their 2022 W-13 livery at a grand launch event. As expected, it was all over the headlines in the Motorsports world.

However, two things that clearly stood out were Hamilton’s return to the Brackley base and the team’s decision to go back to classic silver livery after a gap of two years.

Hamilton has been away from social media following a disheartening loss at Abu Dhabi. Max Verstappen pipped arch-rival Hamilton to the drivers’ title amidst controversial calls from race director Masi. Now, after two months, FIA finally announced major changes in the racing committee, replacing Masi with Eduardo Freitas and Niels Wittich.

During the car launch yesterday, Wolff said that he was happy about these developments. Moreover, the team has pledged to “move on” from the dramatic events. The three Mercedes men sat together for the first time to take questions from the media. The new entrant to the team, George Russell, laid down his thoughts on joining the reigning champions.

Mercedes cannot afford heated rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell

The 24-year-old Briton is one of the most sought-after drivers on the grid. He managed to pull off some exceptional results in a lower midfield car like Williams. On separate occasions, Russell was the sole points scorer for the team. Now, as he is all set to partner with the best in business; Mercedes might be worried about a Nico-Lewis situation again.

Bottas had an exceptional stint with the team, but he never managed to mount a serious championship fight against Lewis. As Russell joins in, many insiders believe he will be right at the front from the very beginning. In a recent interview, Russell said that the team will look to avoid any internal friction in the 2022 season. “We hear rumours from all of the other teams of how much they’re developing,” Russell said.

“Lewis and I need to work together, we can’t focus too much on each other because things are constantly changing and that’s why we need to take a step back.

“We hope Mercedes will still be the fastest team, the fastest car on the grid but there are no guarantees and we need to not be naive to that and work together to ensure that we are,” added the Mercedes man.
