On September 7, 2021, what many fans were predicting, rooting, and longing for finally happened; George Russell was announced as the second Mercedes driver in 2022. This was something the Briton had earned after an impressive stint at Williams, especially in the last season.
And moving to Mercedes not only means he has earned a better car, a better team to showcase and prove his talent; but it also means he’ll earn a whole lot more in salary compared to Williams.
At Williams, Russell earned an estimated £876,000. But at the Silver Arrows, Russell is reported to have a salary of £5 million.

What is Russell’s current net worth?
According to Express, the Briton is currently worth $1 million.
That is a small number in comparison to his colleagues, sure, but one mustn’t forget that Russell is only 23-years-old and his ‘big career move’ is still in front of him. Success at a team like Mercedes will automatically thrust him into the global mainstream spotlight, which in turn would attract loads of sponsors.
And of course, there is the factor of the huge rise in his salary.
George Russell always knew where his future was
After his move to the Silver Arrows was officially announced, Russell explained he never felt any uncertainty about his future. This is something that many in the F1 community were also ‘sure’ of, but there was still some skepticism regarding the Williams driver making the step up.
Regardless, Russell had assurances from team principal Toto Wolff, as he said, “I was never under the impression I wouldn’t have the opportunity.” He added, “Toto said to me ‘when have I ever let you down? Ever since you joined Mercedes you have always performed and I’ve never let you down’.”
