George Russell Rubs Salt in Max Verstappen’s Wounds While F1 Pundit Brushes Over Sensitive Lewis Hamilton Debate

The controversy between Red Bull and Sky Sports settled down after Red Bull lifted the boycott following the Mexican GP. Ted Kravitz’s comments after the US GP on Lewis Hamilton being “robbed” of his 8th championship title did not go down well with Max Verstappen. Following the incident, he boycotted all interactions with Sky Sports.

Red Bull backed their driver’s decision and avoided any interviews with the media outlet at the Mexican GP. Team boss Christian Horner later highlighted how the decision wouldn’t do “any harm” to Sky. Resultantly, they lifted the boycott after the race. However, George Russell is in no mood to let go of the controversy and took a cheeky dig at Max Verstappen recently.

Las Vegas is set to host Formula 1’s penultimate race next season. It is going to be the third US fixture of the year and is surely going to deliver on the hype that is being created around it. Formula 1 has invested a serious amount of money to develop the infrastructure around the street circuit. F1 had a launch party for the circuit and an incident took place when David Croft was asking Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Sergio Perez some questions about Vegas and racing.

During the event, George, referring to Perez, asked Crofty, “are you allowed to ask Red Bull drivers questions?” Crofty replied laughingly, “yeah, I’ve got special permission tonight. Don’t start on me.” The Sky Sports reporter then asked Sergio, “are you allowed to answer?” To this Checo replied, “they [Red Bull management] are not here.”

Later in the event, David asked the drivers if Las Vegas would be the coolest place to win the title in. Russell deflected the question to his champion teammate Lewis Hamilton.

“This guy’s got 7 of them so he can probably tell you more.” Before Lewis could respond, David Croft picked something that was shouted by one fan in the audience. He repeated, “someone’s saying he won 8.” Hamilton with a beaming smile replied, “the party would be the best here.”

The rift between the Milton-Keynes-based team and Sky Sports started after the US GP. Ted Kravitz was reporting while walking around the pit lane. During his pit walk, Kravitz referred to Lewis Hamilton being “robbed” of his 8th championship win last year.

Following the boycott after the Mexican GP, Christian Horner said, “It won’t have done Sky any harm for us to lay down a marker. Some of the commentary is fair but some pieces are sensationalist, and saying we robbed anyone of the championship, as was said in Austin, is going too far. It is not impartial or fair or balanced. We have said our piece and will go back to normal next race.”
