Mercedes driver George Russell has talked about VAR in his interview. The new recruit has talked in favor of the inclusion of VAR in the sport. The much-talked-about Hamilton-Verstappen fiasco at Abu Dhabi to bring in the virtual assistant in F1.

From Michael Masi asking the cars to unlap themselves to Verstappen overtaking Hamilton to snatch the World Title, there have been controversies all around. Fans got divided into two parts after the race, called the game an unfair one. The inclusion of VAR seems to be the need of the hour, as protests were worldwide.

George Russell is the president of the driver’s association. As the spokesperson of the members in the Grid, the Briton has conveyed, “As a representative of the drivers in the GPDA, I explained our point of view to the Federation and they have been extremely proactive, even going so far as to create this VAR, which I think will be very useful”

“Everyone is trying to get the most out of the rules, including us drivers who are looking to give ourselves an advantage on the track through extreme behavior. It will take time to develop all the new tools that the stewards will have at their disposal, but everything that can help, I think it will be a great benefit for Formula 1,” the former Williams driver further stated.

George Russell welcomed the new introduction

FIA in their commission meeting has decided to sack Michael Masi from the race director’s job. Additionally, they’ve introduced some new rules, bringing in VAR is one of them. VAR is already a popular refereeing tool globally and is widely used in Football. Despite its usefulness, it attracted many controversies as well since its introduction.

George Russell has joined Mercedes on a multi-year-long contract this season. The 24-year-old driver has replaced Valtteri Bottas. The expectation level from him is really high as Mercedes sees him as the key man to spearhead their attack post, Lewis Hamilton.
