Finally, after months of intense suspense and drama, Carlos Sainz announces his team for 2025. The so-called, “cork in the bottle” has revealed where his future lies. The Spaniard had no shortage of suitors. Audi, Alpine, and Williams were the top contenders. To be honest, fans had been speculating on this transfer for quite some time. Only the confirmation was missing.
Sainz has chosen Williams. He will be partnering with Alex Albon in the upcoming years. Rumors intensified about ‘Smooth Operator’ joining the Grove-based team after Papa Sainz left their motorhome in Spa. Following this, James Vowles seemed more than confident that the Madrid-born was joining his squad. The team principal proudly said that he was more than sure that Carlos would be joining. And today was the day when ‘Carlito’ took to Instagram to share the piece of news.
He said, “Today I’m announcing that I’ll be joining the Williams family from 2025 onwards”, continuing, “It’s been an intense few months combining racing with having to decide my future. But now I’m 100% committed and confident that Williams is the right place for me to spend my next few years.” He further noted that he believes in the team’s projects and progress. However, his pursuit for glory with Ferrari will continue till the end of 2024, after which Sainz will part ways and enter the Williams garage.

Looking from a strategic point of view, Carlos Sainz’s move to Williams reeks of strong analysis. Given the close relationship the team has with Mercedes, this could be his doorway to a seat alongside George Russell. A whopping $10.8 million deal for the Spaniard looks enticing for the future. ‘Chilli’ seems to have concocted a special game plan for this deal. Although these are speculative, one thing is for sure- James Vowles is a very happy man today.
Welcoming Sainz into the squad, he said: “Carlos joining Williams is a strong statement of intent from both parties. Carlos has demonstrated time and again that he is one of the most talented drivers on the grid, with a race-winning pedigree. This underlines the upward trajectory we are on. Carlos brings not just experience and performance, but also a fierce drive to extract every millisecond out of the team and car; the fit is perfect.” Vowles is seeing the most formidable duo in Albon and Sainz. He isn’t wrong as both drivers know how to push the limits and pick crucial points in crucial races.
So, ending the suspense drama, we now know what lies ahead for Carlos Sainz. While his stint with Ferrari isn’t over yet, his commitment to Williams will be tested too. Moreover, this means, Kimi Antonelli isn’t joining Williams, what lies ahead for the F2 driver is also a mystery. Meanwhile, going into summer break, Sainz could now relax a bit as the tension to mull over his future is over for now.
