British driver George Russell joined the reigning champions Mercedes ahead of the 2022 F1 season. Though relatively young, Russell is one of the most sought-after drivers on the current F1 grid.  The 23-year-old made his first F1 appearance in the 2019 Australian Grand Prix for the Williams team.

After 3 seasons with the team, he is all set to partner Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2022. F1 insiders believe Russell will prove to be a formidable force right from his first season with the team. Many even expect friction like that in Rosberg’s era if Hamilton gets a worthy opponent in Russell. His predecessor, Valtteri Bottas, was often forced to play the second fiddle to Hamilton.

However, with Russell coming in, power dynamics inside the team may take a toll. When he took the wheel of the Mercedes W-12 at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, it was pretty evident what he can do with a competitive car. If not for a late puncture, he was all set to win his maiden race. His recent comments suggest another confident run for the young Brit.

In a recent interview, Russell answered a range of one-line questions. The Mercedes driver was asked to give his prediction on his first podium with the Silver Arrows. His answer to this one clearly stood out. “Race 1, Bahrain Grand Prix,” said Russell confidently.

In the same interview, Russell was asked about his most embarrassing F1 moment. He took a moment and responded, “Probably crashing into Valtteri in Imola 2021.” The two had a huge collision during the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix instigating a safety car situation. Russell was taking an outside line to overtake Bottas when the Finn allegedly made a late move that was “not correct,” as per Russell.

However, he later accepted partial blame for the incident. Now he reckons this incident as the most embarrassing one in F1. Russell has started with the preparations for the 2022 season with the Silver Arrows team. He recently shared a picture of himself donning the Mercedes ensemble from his 1st day in Brackley.
