The Austrian GP saw some drama on the track. However, it also saw a whole lot of drama off-track. Some fans at the grandstands have been accused of racist, homophobic, and misogynistic behavior. In light of this, several drivers, like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, have come out and condemned the actions of the crowd. Now Mercedes driver George Russell has joined the list as well.

Russell gave his two cents on the matter. The Briton said, “Now every time we go to a race it feels like one of those big festivals, which is great to a certain extent, but I’m sure there’s a lot of booze going around and that’s getting things out of control.” (translated using google)

The Austrian GP was a disappointing affair for Russell, who hoped for a podium finish. The Briton crashed with Sergio Perez on the opening lap, which blew his chances of a podium at Spielberg. However, a good recovery drive saw him finish P4.

Talking to Sky Sports F1 Russell said, “From my side it was obviously very frustrating to have the first-lap incident. I braked late and braked hard and Checo had a clean line, as soon as he started to turn in I knew we were going to make contact.”
