Remember how questions were raised when Aston Martin signed Fernando Alonso? The concerns regarding the Spaniard’s age and whether he will be able to consistently perform at the highest level? Lewis Hamilton isn’t a young gun anymore. Already 38, Hamilton is being faced with a retirement dilemma. Amid all this, a burning question recently grabbed attention as George Russell was hailed to send Hamilton into retirement. What is the question?
Amid all the Ferrari rumors and the wait to sign the Mercedes extension, many have raised questions about Lewis Hamilton’s retirement. The Briton has already won 7 championships but Mercedes isn’t able to provide a championship-winning car for the elusive 8th. So, should Lewis Hamilton retire while still being somewhere at the top of his game? George Russell already caught up to Lewis Hamilton and beat him in last year’s championship quite convincingly.
Mika Hakkinen has now suggested that as people get older, their thought process and priorities change. Talking about not 100% concentrating on F1 and Russell outperforming Hamilton, as quoted by Motorsportweek.com, Mika Hakkinen said “Formula 1 just won’t be the most important thing anymore. It wouldn’t surprise me when the competition gets tougher and young drivers emerge, what George Russell is doing with Lewis [Hamilton] at the moment, result-wise, it’s not an easy situation.”

Hakkinen then asked the burning question asking whether Lewis Hamilton has the motivation to go toe to toe with George Russell and beat him. Hakkinen questioned, “Does Lewis have enough energy to wake up every morning, give his everything and bring results so that he can beat his team-mate? Is that the right future for him?”
We don’t know what the future will bring for Hamilton. Will he retire from the sport soon? Even F1 journalist Peter Windsor questioned the Mercedes man’s motivation. Let’s see what Windsor had to say.

In one of his YouTube videos, Peter Windsor opened up about Lewis Hamilton’s future as he questioned whether the 7X champion has what it takes to keep his morale high. The journalist then warned Hamilton of Mercedes not providing a winning car and George Russell edging him to take over the No.1 role at the team.
According to Peter Windsor’s YouTube video, he said “At the level, he [Lewis Hamilton] is, if Mercedes continue not to be winning races and George is annoyingly a tenth quicker here or there periodically or more than periodically. I think that’s the big thing at Mercedes”
