George Russell was the most in-demand driver at French Grand Prix. Everyone is speculating that he would move to Mercedes in 2022 and the announcement may come in Silverstone. The young Brit stated he is aware of the speculations but he is enjoying driving and is focused on Williams for now.
The contracts of Russell, Hamilton, and Bottas are up in December. While it is almost given that Lewis would sign a new contract with the Silver Arrows, the same cannot be said about Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn has struggled this season in his Mercedes and is currently 6th in the driver’s standings. With each passing week, it seems likely Russell will replace Bottas for the 2022 season.

“It’s sometimes exciting not knowing what the future holds”- George Russell
According to The Sun, Russell is keeping his head down and focusing on the next race. He also stated that he has not heard from Toto Wolff regarding the contract talks.
“I want to get my future nailed down at some point. I’m just focused on this weekend, the French Grand Prix, and then into Austria,” said Russell.
“I’m just focused on race by race and just enjoying the curiosity of what’s to come. It’s sometimes exciting not knowing what the future holds,” said Russell.
When asked if he would stay at Williams next season, Russell stated, “My gut feeling at the moment? I haven’t really allowed myself to think about that too much, because that can become a distraction, I’ve learned that.
“So it will come at some point. And so, for now, the gut is not saying anything. I just want to win races and get the results that I’m aiming for,” said Russell.
