The main race in Azerbaijan may have turned out to be a dull affair for some. But sparks surely flew off between Mercedes and Red Bull once again. However, for once, Lewis Hamilton wasn’t involved in the controversy this time around. Young George Russell led the charge against the might of Max Verstappen in the Sprint Race and the affair turned out to be a juicy one for the spectators. However, the comments that followed after the incident were far from savory. While Verstappen started the war of words, Russell is refusing to back down.
George started the Sprint behind Max but got off to a great start and placed himself ahead of the Dutchman. Once the duo approached Turn 2, Verstappen attacked from around the outside but did not find sufficient space. Resultantly, they had a minor crash where the Red Bull ace took some damage to his floor and bodywork. After the completion of the Sprint, Max confronted George in parc ferme, and cameras picked up on him calling the Silver Arrows driver a “d**ckhead”.

Verstappen recently appeared for an interview with the Dutch media. During the interview, he once again refused to hold back his anger and referred to Russell as “Princess George”. The comment hasn’t gone down well with the junior Mercedes driver.
Responding to the jibe during a recent interview with Sky Sports F1, Russell said, “It was all a little bit pathetic. Something you learn as a kid is that if you’re going to give something, you’ve got to be willing to take it as well.”
“He’s had his fair share of giving moves like that and being tough and hard at racing. It’s a little bit poor to see how he sort of spat his dummy out when it was the first time he probably got something back in the same regard.”
The boy from King’s Lynn, however, expected the issue to not become a lingering one.
Russell believes the issue will resolve once he personally talks with Verstappen

F1 is a sport of a constant adrenaline rush. Incidents like these can trigger an exchange of some unsavory vocabulary. George feels they are both mature enough to handle the situation and will perhaps one day look back at the incident and laugh about it.
He said, “We’re both drivers, we’ve been in the sport a long time now and we have plenty of experience. We’ll have a chat and move on. And I guess we’ll laugh about it one day.”
