George Russell and his potential move to Mercedes next season have been a topic of speculation for months now. However, the young British driver claims he has no genuine concerns about his future.
In the last year of his contract, Russell is expected to replace Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes. Having failed to provide much-needed fire to Mercedes’ title campaign this year, the Finnish driver has been under fire in recent weeks.
The young Briton, on the other hand, put up his name as a top contender for the coveted Silver Arrows seat after he outperformed Bottas while stepping in for a COVID-struck Lewis Hamilton.

What did George Russell say?
George Russell, ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix, revealed that no talks have been initiated between Mercedes and Williams about his future for 2022 and beyond.
However, the 23-year-old believes he will have a place on the grid for 2022 no matter what, and thus, is not concerned about the future.
“At the moment I’m just focused on the driving, to be honest. No discussions have started at all, just taking it race by race.
“When the right time comes, we’ll start discussing with myself and my managers and with whatever other party that may be,” said the Williams driver at the driver’s press conference.
“But I’m confident I’ll remain in F1 next year, which gives me no real concerns and just allows me to go out there and just try and do my best week in, week out which is a really nice feeling to have, to not have any concerns [in] that regard.”
‘Not messing around’: Russell on new Williams management
With new regulations being introduced next season and a management change at Williams, Russell believes his current team could be up at the front and fighting with the Silver Arrows in near future.
Following the purchase of the iconic British team by Dorilton Capital last year, there have been some major changes at Williams management with Jost Capito replacing Simon Roberts as the new team principal.
When asked if the financial stability of Williams could see them become the frontrunners once again, George Russell said, “I’m really confident to be honest. Everything I’ve seen so far since the arrival of the new owners has been fantastic, to be honest.
“They’re absolutely not messing around and they are doing things properly.

“They want to win, it might sound silly at the moment, but we’ve got a big regulation change coming next year.”
