Lewis Hamilton has come a long way since 2007 and his life story, coupled with his achievements, is inspirational. From looking up to drivers to becoming a driver, people look up to Hamilton has achieved everything. And Hamilton is one of the greatest drivers of all time, and meeting him alone feels like a privilege.

But nothing compares to meeting him young and then progressing to compete alongside him. However, that is exactly what George Russell, Hamilton’s teammate, has done. A ten-year-old Russell met Hamilton when he was still representing Mclaren. In a short documentary produced by FIA, Russell elaborates on the surreal turn of events.

Russell, while looking at the photo from when he was 10 with Hamilton, expressed the feelings the photo invoked. He said, “It feels very surreal knowing that this kid (points at himself) is now teammates with this driver (points at Hamilton). And for sure, I wouldn’t have believed it when I was, you know, 10 years old.”

He added, “It goes to show what hard work and dedication can achieve.”

Russell has not only come a long way but has been incredible this season for Mercedes. It’s not easy outperforming your seven-time world champion teammate, but that’s exactly what Russell’s done. The young Brit with his incredible consistency with top-five finishes in the opening nine races is proving his worth for the Mercedes team.

However, Russell is well aware of his teammate’s quality and the plethora of experience he possesses.

He reveals, “I have to be an engineer in this job, you can’t just be a good driver that won’t get you anywhere. You have to be able to understand what these incredibly intelligent individuals are talking about. You have to be able to translate what you’re feeling in the car into engineers speak, basically.”
