Fernando Alonso has arguably been a character in F1. His dynamic with his teammates over the years has been quite dramatic. And Esteban Ocon has been no exception to the same. We saw some crazy fighting on track between the Alpine duo in 2022 and, most recently, in Brazil. Yet, Alpine has to handle just one more weekend. Afterward, Alonso will move to Aston Martin for 2023. And the Silverstone squad might be tense on how to handle the Spaniard.

On the podcast titled ‘The Ringer F1 Show’, the host, Kevin Clark, and Radio Presenter, Spanners, analyzed Alonso‘s general behavior with teammates and how he conducts himself in a team.
They said, “He is such an interesting character. He has the ability to galvanize people around him. He’s got everything. He has got charisma and passion. You genuinely believe he lives and breathes racing. But then he makes himself so hard to like with this kind of doubling down, gaslighting, and politicking. He did it to Kimi Raikkonen [at Ferrari].”

They added, “I just don’t understand how it’s gonna work at Aston Martin [with Lance Stroll].” They also discussed why Aston may face issues due to the way Lance Stroll has driven, causing some major incidents.
Further, they mentioned, “Look how Lance Stroll has been fighting Sebastian Vettel. Basically, he shoved Alonso off a couple of races ago [at COTA] causing the Safety car with that big crash.”
“And then exactly the same thing nearly in the [Brazil] sprint race with Sebastian Vettel. It’s just that Vettel got out of the way in time. That’s going to be fireworks [Alonso and Stroll next year]”

To be fair to Alonso, Esteban Ocon also has pushed him to the limit this season. Several incidents in Jeddah, Hungary, and Brazil have left the Spaniard vulnerable to Ocon’s moves on the track. And if Stroll is going to do the same, the 2-time champion is most probably not going to back down in that conflict.
Fernando Alonso – A history of Drama and Dominance with Former teammates
Over the years, we have seen Alonso dominate several teammates. Back in his Ferrari days, he carried the Scuderia for fighting in the championship by outscoring Felipe Massa by huge margins. Although Massa was one of his best teammates, everyone in the paddock knows his 2007 feud with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren.

Back then Hamilton matched Alonso from Race 1 in Australia and was in close contention with the double world champion for the 2007 title. Both the McLaren drivers fought tooth and nail, with Fernando trying to intimidate and sabotage Lewis on several occasions. Eventually, both finished tied up on points and lost the title to Kimi Raikkonen.

Nonetheless, since then, Alonso has learned a lot to work better with teammates. He has been showing signs of how he can work collectively with teammates to achieve common goals. The Alpine duo of Ocon and Alonso overcame their differences in Brazil’s main race to maximize their result on their rival McLaren’s double DNF.

Still, he may not tolerate any erratic behavior on Stroll’s part, as witnessed by him in Austin. If such incidents happen between the drivers, Aston Martin might suffer from a bad team dynamic next season.
