The 2020 F1 season indeed proved to be a rollercoaster in terms of the frenetic nature of the year itself. After initial uncertainty of whether races would take place, the sport successfully completed a 17-race season. Naturally, some interesting records were also broken.

1) Lewis Hamilton achieves 92 race wins with a victory in Portugal

With a superb win in Portimao, Lewis Hamilton eclipsed Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record of 91 wins. Many had believed that that record would take a long time to break, but then came along Hamilton.

Possessing top speed in the race, the 35-year-old was just too quick for the likes of Bottas and Verstappen to catch him. Ultimately, he registered a win by crossing the checkered flag 25 seconds in front of his Mercedes teammate.

2) Kimi Raikkonen makes his 323rd F1 race start at Sochi

In a career that has spanned nearly 19 years, Kimi Raikkonen has been a mainstay for a long time now. His ever-present charisma and gritty racecraft ensured he has thus far held a seat on the F1 grid.

At the 2020 Russian GP, the Finn driver made his 323rd start, overtaking Rubens Barrichello’s earlier record of 322. By the looks of it, Raikkonen might just go even farther, considering he will race for Alfa Romeo in 2021.

3) Mercedes secure seven consecutive Constructors’ titles at Imola

A classic 1-2 finish in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw Mercedes secure their seventh consecutive Constructors’ championship. It was a dominant performance from them, and they broke Ferrari’s existing record of six titles.

Mercedes have truly bossed the turbo-hybrid era since it started. Considering the form they are in, it will not be a surprise to see them secure another championship in 2021.

4) Sergio Perez wins the Sakhir GP after 190 races in F1

What a day it was for 30-year-old Sergio Perez, who has toiled and worked his way to succeed in F1. There was a reason why he became such a popular winner after his race victory in the Sakhir GP.

The Mexican had gone 190 races without a single Grand Prix win. On a day where he was stacked against the odds lying in P19, he roared from the back of the grid to emerge victorious.

5) Most podiums milestone also attained by Hamilton with Spanish GP win

A stellar season from the Mercedes driver meant that he also surpassed the legendary Schumacher in terms of total podium finishes tally. The former Ferrari great had accumulated 155 podiums in his career in the premier motorsport division.

With his win at the 2020 Spanish GP, Hamilton broke that milestone. The Briton’s tally now lies at 165 and that number will stretch further over the course of the next few seasons.

Many feats this year involved Lewis Hamilton, and naturally so, with him also matching Schumacher’s all-important tally of seven Drivers’ titles.
