The 33-year-old has been rather vocal about the difficulties he faced in the last season as a driver for McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo once stated that the pressures of his downward graphed performance was affecting who he was as a person on a day-to-day. Therefore, in the role of a reserve driver for the next year, the Aussie finds the much-needed balance between the F1 world a life outside of it.
Daniel Ricciardo is especially excited about his next steps as he is finally going to be executing one of his bucket list wishes. In an interview with Speedcafe.com, the Aussie shared, “I’m really trying to find a balance of still staying in the sport, to some degree, but giving myself time to, again, just have time for me.”
“That’s even as simple as even just getting more time to myself to train, to spend in the [time] in the gym, to get better, whatever.”
“Just taking more time for me to do things, prioritize some other things but also I’m trying to plan a ride across America. That’s something that I know will be yes, exciting, fun, but I’ll also just get so much self-reflection time.”
Furthermore, Daniel is hoping his adventure would determine the future of his F1 career in 2024.
Daniel Ricciardo is confident that this year off would help him decide his next steps in F1
The Honey Badger has been overwhelmed with his journey and seems to have been lacking clarity on what would work best for him in his driving career. Ricciardo has consistently admitted to feeling lost and is excited to go off on the road to clear his mind and think straight.
Ricciardo strongly believes that this time apart from the grid would keep him stay involved with the sport just enough, without crowding his thoughts. And being one with nature would give him the direction that he has been seeking.

He continued, “That stuff, for me, is really powerful; just being alone and going through nature. All these things, they’re things I’m looking forward to.”
“And I think getting enough alone time as well will answer a lot of questions and give me clarity moving forward; if 2024 is the best thing for me to be back on the grid or not.”
“Then it’s up to teams as well to feel like I’m worthy, but think I’ll just answer a lot of questions for myself next year,” he concluded.
