The latest developments coming out of Maranello suggest that Ferrari management is ready to put a stop to their continued embarrassment. While they recently revealed their development plans assuring the Tifosi of better results in the future, they’ve realized it would not be enough. The solution they have come up with concerns long-term vision, treading along the lines of the philosophy Aston Martin has adopted.
Teams going out poaching other teams’ drivers is no news for F1 fans. Neither is the poaching of essential personnel including engineers. Aston Martin has recently tasted success and much of the credit for it goes to Dan Fallows. Fallows used to be Red Bull’s aerodynamic ace, who surprisingly jumped ship to Aston Martin. Now it looks like Ferrari are ready to replicate their model of success.

Last year, when the ground-effect regulations came into force, the Prancing Horse got off to a great start. Charles Leclerc won two races from the first three, accumulating 46 points over the eventual champion, Max Verstappen. However, the Austrian team quickly put their woes behind them to develop the car that broke several records. That run continued in 2023 and it looks like the Milton-Keynes-based outfit has further built the gap on its rivals. As no other solution appears in sight to overcome that gap, the Italian Giants have devised a crazy strategy.
Corriere dello Sport recently revealed, “Two engineers have just been hired and have ceased their activity at Red Bull, they are in full gardening and will be in force in Maranello in 2024. But their names are not yet known, nor is it known how much difference they can make: after all, the Cavallino has hired thirty technicians in the last three years – even from top teams like Red Bull and Mercedes.” [Translated using Google]
Red Bull engineers jumping ship is perhaps what Frederic Vasseur recently hinted at when he took a sly dig at his rivals while providing an update on the SF23’s development plans.
Frederic Vassuer does not believe Red Bull have everything under control
Red Bull has won every race we’ve had until now this season. Out of the three of those, they easily managed 1-2 finishes twice. While they pulled off this feat, Ferrari were nowhere near to challenging them for the top spot. What is even more embarrassing is that the red team hasn’t even managed a podium finish until now. However, when it came to taking a dig at his rivals, Ferrari boss did not back out.

Band Sports recently quoted Vasseur as saying, “For sure, we’ve adjusted the direction of development a little bit in recent weeks, but it’s true for everyone on the grid. You have to do a better job every race and understand more and extract more from the car’s potential.”
“Honestly, I don’t even think Red Bull can say they have everything under control, it’s the DNA of our business.”
