Being forced behind Charles Leclerc during a weekend has become a common occurrence for Carlos Sainz. In fact, The Spaniard has been subjected to similar team orders in the last three races. This would be a frustrating aspect for any Formula 1 driver. Carlos Sainz is no exception as the team player communicated his frustrations after the Austrian GP. However, Sainz backtracked on his comments in Silverstone. However, this redaction does not hide the fact that even under Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari’s management still has plenty of faults.
Ferrari took a bold step by hiring Frederic Vasseur after forcing Mattia Binotto out. However, despite Ferrari going against their core values and putting a Frenchman in charge to see some change, there hasn’t been any. In fact, Vasseur’s management of the team and the drivers is similar to the disappointing previous season.
Sainz highlighted that after the usually calm and team-playing Spaniard fired criticism toward Ferrari after missing out on a podium. “Sometimes you look like a fool,” said Sainz after the Austrian GP. However, he backtracked on his criticism a week later at Silverstone. “They have explained it to me and I understand the team’s reasons,” said the Ferrari man.

Carlos Sainz needs to beat Charles Leclerc at every juncture to get the upper hand at Ferrari
Keeping one team aside, the grid has become extremely close in the past weeks. This is exactly why Sainz claimed in any given weekend, any team can be on top. However, even if Ferrari is on top during a particular weekend, the Spaniard needs to beat his teammate in all aspects of the weekend to get the team’s support on his side. This is the opinion of the F1 journalist Roberto Chinchero who believes if Sainz can ace his weekend, he won’t have to suffer the brunt of the team orders or undercuts by his teammate.

“[Sainz] did the whole weekend better than Leclerc, but not Q3, and I think it’s frustrating for him. Charles, on the other hand, has the talent to put himself there at the key moment,” said Chinchero.
He added, “What Carlos needs to understand is that what matters, especially if the car has regained speed, is Q3 and the start. He has to be in a position to be in front.”

Now it’s easier said than done as both are incredible racers. However, it is obvious Leclerc is the clear favorite at Ferrari at the moment and Sainz needs to change this scenario soon.
