The 2022 British GP saw one of the biggest F1 crashes in recent times. Chinese driver Guanyu Zhou’s car was flipped over. It then proceeded to skate upside-down on the gravel before smashing into the fences. It was the Halo that protected the driver’s head amid all this, allowing him to walk away from the crash unscathed.

The 2018 season saw the introduction of Halo in F1 and other junior formulas. Since its introduction, it has gone on to get major credit for saving the lives of drivers on multiple occasions.
In the meantime, let us take a look at 4 occasions the Halo proved to be instrumental in saving the drivers.
4 times the world hailed the F1 and FIA’s Halo
1. Charles Leclerc: In the 2018 season, Leclerc was in his rookie season at Alfa Romeo. At Spa-Francorchamps, Fernando Alonso’s flying McLaren nearly landed on top of Charles Leclerc’s head.
However, it was the Halo that saved Monegasque, as it ensured it took the brunt of the impact.
2. Lewis Hamilton: The race at Monza last year saw a coming together between the two championship hopefuls, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

It ended up with Verstappen’s car on top of Hamilton’s halo. Once again, it saved Britton from any major issues.
3. Romain Grosjean: The 2020 Bahrain GP saw one of the worst crashes in the history of Formula One. The opening lap of the race saw Grosjean’s Haas career into the barriers.

The car split in two and went up in a ball of flames. However, the Frenchman survived with only burns to show from the crash. The Halo once again held up its end and made sure Grosjean walked away from the crash.
