When it comes to Michael Schumacher, the name is synonymous with Formula 1. The German doesn’t have anything to prove, as he is one of the greatest the sport has ever produced. The Ferrari sporting icon not only has seven world titles to his name but also 91 race wins. With his stature, the legend in the sport once turned down an Indy 500 challenge, saying he has “nothing to prove.”
In an old interview, from Ferrari days, Schumacher was asked if he cares about going to the IndyCar series. To reply to that, he not only snubbed going to the American series but also called it a step down from F1.

Giving the reasons for his thoughts, Schumacher said, “First of all it’s a step down from Formula 1 and second it’s too dangerous.” The German star also shared in the interview, “I’ve nothing to prove there. I don’t see a challenge in it.”

Formula 1 and IndyCar are two of the most elite form of motorsport in the world. They both are fundamentally single-seater racing sports. While Formula 1 takes place around the globe, IndyCar takes place exclusively in the United States as of now.

Michael Schumacher isn’t the only driver who has been called to race in IndyCar, However, the racing legend had very strong opinions towards IndyCar drivers. The German felt F1 drivers are superior to their IndyCar counterparts.

In the same interview, when the interviewer mentioned if other people trying out the single-seater series make it any more challenging, the veteran driver said, “No.”
He then went on to state his favor on behalf of F1 drivers as he explained, “Usually the people who cannot survive in Formula 1, they go to Indy. And people who are coming from Indy hardly survive in Formula 1.”

We are not sure how much Schumacher’s stance is true in the current scenario as the two sports have changed massively. A few F1 drivers who tried their luck in IndyCar in recent times are Romain Grosjean, Fernando Alonso, Marcus Ericsson, etc. Whereas IndyCar drivers like Colton Herta and Pato O’Ward are heavily linked with a switch to the F1 teams.
