Daniel Ricciardo’s move to McLaren for the 2021 season means that there is a spot open at Renault for next season. Most people are touting a return to Formula One for 2-time world champion Fernando Alonso. Rumors are that he’d rejoin the French team to replace Ricciardo. However, there is one driver on the grid with two more championship titles than Alonso. He goes by the name of Sebastian Vettel. While Vettel is probably waiting on a Mercedes move, it seems unlikely to happen. If Renault can afford Alonso, that means there is another option for Vettel on the table.
However former Red Bull driver, Mark Webber can’t see that move happening.

When asked about his former teammate’s future, Webber said, “ I don’t know where he can go, buddy. I really don’t know. I do not see Seb in midfield. Most of the ratio of his career he has always been sniffing around podiums, apart from the first year at Toro Rosso in which he still won a race. So, I don’t see him at Renault at all. I see him, letting it flush out the back of 2021 and then have a bit of a look coming back.”
He further added, “He’s super young but it feels like he’s done. I wouldn’t be surprised if he stops but I really hope he doesn’t.”
Renault fans might not be too happy to hear that, but Vettel’s move to the French team does look unlikely. Renault have had reliability issues with their car last year and even Renault’s Team Principal, Cyril Abiteboul said that they’d need to invest in the car more so they can attract good drivers. So unless Renault have improved their car to a point where they can win Grand Prix’s, Vettel’s not going to go to the Enstone based team.
