Aston Martin has made a comeback to the F1 grid after six decades. However, their much-awaited return has not been up to their expectations. The team faced gearbox issues during the preseason testing and seemed to have lost out on their performance compared to last season.
The team is looking forward to making changes that could help them get back to their competitive self. A recent report states that Aston Martin will sign former Ferrari F1 team principal, Marco Mattiacci, who took over from Stefano Domenicali in 2014.
Mattiacci was in Ferrari for just seven months and later joined the American electric car company, Faraday Future. He has a long-standing relationship with Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin’s boss, and will return to Formula 1 in the capacity of an advisor to Aston Martin.

The Italian has extensive experience in the automotive industry. He started his career with Jaguar and was later hired by Ferrari. His work and results led him to the top of the management and he became the CEO of the Prancing Horse in America.
While he had a troublesome start to his motorsport career, he made his way from streetcars to Ferrari as Domenicali’s replacement. However, during his seven-month stint with the team, Ferrari had quite a bad season. They finished fourth place on the table and the two drivers at the time, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, also finished behind at P6 and P12, respectively.
