Fernando Alonso is making a much-awaited comeback after a two-year break from Formula 1. However, the Spaniard’s return was shrouded by a cloud of uncertainty after he met with an accident while cycling in Switzerland. Flavio Briatore, Alonso’s guide, talked about the Spaniard’s recent accident.

Briatore guided the 2021 Alpine F1 driver to his two F1 championships with Renault back in 2005 and 2006. In the interview, he talked about Alonso’s return, hunger for success, and the bicycling injury.

“Fernando is very fit, apart [from] the accident, he met with the bike. I tell Fernando, I talk with him every day, you know? I tell Fernando to stop with his bike because in the bike you’re very dangerous.”

The break from F1 was good for Fernando Alonso, explains Briatore

Fernando Alonso retired from the sport at the end of 2018. After F1, the former champion conquered the 24 Hours Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship. However, he missed the thrill and speed of F1 and decided to come back to the sport.

Briatore explained that the break from F1 was positive for the Spaniard. “He is very very motivating. I believe two years out of F1 for him was good.

“Because first, it’s re-motivating again, especially when you’re driving the car and know the possibility to win is a lot of refresher for a driver like that,” he shared.

Alonso was hospitalized after a cycling crash in Switzerland earlier this month. He underwent surgery to correct a fractured jaw and was later discharged after a 48-hour observation period.
