Last weekend at a chaotic Turkish Grand Prix, Sergio Perez equaled his best-ever race finish by seeing the checkered flag in P2.

However, despite such stunning performances from the Mexican, Red Bull seem to be unmoved and are looking to stick with Alex Albon for the next season. Hence, Max Chilton felt that Perez might not see himself around in the paddock in 2021.

Speaking to GQ Magazine, the former F1 driver weighed his thoughts on the possibility of witnessing Perez inside the Red Bull’s cockpit. “The sad thing is what is going to happen with Pérez,” Chilton said.

He is a fantastic driver,  as he showed at  the weekend – but I cannot see him staying in F1.”

Perez has enjoyed one of his best seasons in Formula 1 this year. Despite being out of two race weekends due to COVID-19, he is still leading the mid-field battle in the driver’s standings. Perez is currently holding the P4, with 100 points in the bag.

Chilton believes opting for Sergio Perez is not Red Bull’s way

Although Red Bull hinted that they were interested in giving one of their seats to Perez, the team are yet to declare their final decision. If it was any other team, Perez would have always been the priority over Albon.

However, since Red Bull relies entirely on their academy for drivers, it could resist the team from going after the Racing Point driver. Chilton, too, mentioned the same.

The place that would make the most sense would be replacing Alex Albon at Red Bull, but it’s just not the Red Bull way. They like to promote their development drivers. So I just can’t see it happening,” he said.

However, it is still not all over for Perez. With the upcoming race weekends likely to favor the pacy Racing Point, the podium-sitter of the Turkish GP will definitely push his car to the limits in an attempt to change Red Bull’s focus towards him.

Hence, it wouldn’t be much of a shock if the paddock manages to witness more podiums from Perez in the next three races. Will Perez use the upcoming weekends to his fullest advantage and secure a seat in the Red Bull?
