George Russell will be driving for Mercedes alongside 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton next season. Seeing that there have been problems in the past with teammates at Mercedes, former F1 driver, Damon Hill has some advice for the young Brit.

Russell is undoubtedly one of the most talented drivers on the grid and will be going up against arguably one of the greatest drivers in Formula One. Seeing that the Silver Arrows will have a dynamic duo for the 2022 season, Hill has some advice for the ex-Williams driver.

Damon Hill offers George Russell some advice for his future at Mercedes

Speaking on the new partnership, Hill said, “I think it will be great to watch. I’m sure Lewis will be wanting to encourage George. I don’t see it going wrong.”

“I think Lewis recognizes his timespan is shorter in the sport than George’s, so he will want to play his part in giving him a leg-up – not that he needs one, probably.It’s down to George and how he approaches it, I think. You can go into these situations and think ‘right, that’s the enemy over there and I’m out to knock spots off them’.

“That might not be the wisest thing to do with Lewis, I don’t think. That’s something to really look forward to next year. I’ll be as excited as anyone to see what will happen,” he concluded.

How did Russell perform in his last season for Williams?

His last season with the Grove-based outfit was his best one, as he managed to score his first Formula One podium at the infamous Belgian Grand Prix, and finished the season with sixteen points to his name–taking the fifteenth spot in the drivers’ championship.

In 2022, Russell will drive for one of the most dominant teams on the Formula One grid. Seeing the talent that the Brit possesses, the F1 community can’t wait to see him push himself for podiums and wins next season.
