Pierre Gasly is undoubtedly one of the best drivers on the grid right now. He has, for most of the season, single-handedly carried AlphaTauri’s hopes of finishing P5 in the constructor’s championship. He has performed exceedingly well since he was demoted from Red Bull in mid-2019. But former world champions Damon Hill and Jenson Button do not think he will go back to the sister team.
Gasly drove for Red Bull in 2019 but was demoted after a string of inconsistent performances. But despite his consistent performances in the junior team, Red Bull have shown no signs of promoting the French driver. Hill mentioned that the Austrian team has a tough environment and the young drivers do not have the authority over the team management.

Former world champions predict Pierre Gasly won’t go back to Red Bull
As reported by F1i.com, both Jenson Button and Damon Hill believe Gasly will not go back to Red Bull. Button predicts Alpine might be an option for Gasly if he does not join the Red Bull team.
“The problem is, I don’t see him back in a Red Bull, I really don’t. I’m guessing he will have some options at the end of next year, but where do you go? Alpine, probably, because you really want to be with a manufacturer. That’s the thing.
Alpine might be behind AlphaTauri at the moment, but that manufacturer should be better in the future–should be–because they have the money to do so.” said Button.
1996 world champion Damon Hill shared the sentiment of Button. He also feels like the environment of Red Bull did not suit the talent of Pierre Gasly.

“Nobody’s in any doubt about his ability and what he’s achieved so far. The blip was going to the Red Bull team. I’ve said it before, I think it’s a very tough environment in the Red Bull team and younger drivers, I think, don’t have the authority.” said the former Williams driver.
It is a shame that the French driver might not get a second chance with the Austrian team. Since his demotion, he has certainly proved that he deserves another shot with the Red Bull team.
