The start of the 2022 season is just around the corner. In less than a month, the sport will officially enter a new era of racing with the new regulations and new cars. We expect the grid will be much closer than ever before with much closer racing and better overtaking opportunities. In light of this, Former world champion Mika Hakkinen gave his prediction for the 2022 season involving Alpine driver Fernando Alonso.

Mika mentioned he sees the former 2-time world champion winning a race in the 2022 season. Alonso made his comeback to Formula One last season with Alpine and managed to finish on a podium in Qatar.

I’m still very impressed with Fernando Alonso: Mika Hakkinen

As reported by Planetf1, the French outfit could be the underdog this season and can surprise everyone with their performance. If this is the case, then Alonso is a good bet for a race win this season. Hakkinen revealed the key features that impress him about Alonso even to this day.

“I’m still very impressed with Fernando. We know his motivation, his fitness, his love of motorsport and I can see him winning. He is not in Formula 1 just to be in it. He wants to win and I am very confident. I see him winning in Formula 1 sooner or later,” said the former McLaren driver.

“And the team he is in now, I’m sure that with the resources and the means they have if they want to use them fully, they can win. So I wouldn’t be surprised if 2022 is the year when we will see Alonso winning races,” said Mika.

Fernando has not won a race since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix. Last season he showed glimpses of his old self in a midfield car that would often fight for points in the races.

If he gets a chance to drive a more competitive car in the 2022 season, there is a possibility that he might show his legendary racing skills once again.
