Former World Champion Damon Hill has delivered his say on Ferrari’s chances ahead of the 2022 F1 season. Ferrari has been one of the fastest teams in pre-season testing in Barcelona. The Scuderia are looking to end a barren spell without a race win since the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix.

The Englishman believes that Ferrari will be putting up a tough challenge this season. Talking to SpeedWeek.com, he said, “These sidepods, this fairing, it’s unique in the starting field, it’s phenomenal. But I also heard a very experienced designer after looking at the Ferrari say, ‘Looks like it was designed by a committee. The front axle seems to move in a different direction than the rear axle.”

“What I’m trying to say is that no one knows where we are in light of the new regulations. But one thing is certain–there are many differences between the racing cars,” he added. The 1996 champion has seen a massive improvement in the new F1-75 this season.

Drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were put to the test in testing, completing more laps than any other team while gathering valuable data ahead of the season opener in Bahrain.

The team has made significant progress after the COVID-19 pandemic stopped proceedings. Team Principal Mattia Binotto opted for working on the new 2022 car, which has certainly shown in testing. The Scuderia have gone for a new sidepod change which has seen a good productive result.

Meanwhile, Leclerc will be looking to return to his best form after a disappointing 2021. He finished 5.5 points below his counterpart Sainz, who secured 4 podiums in his first season. Sainz, who ended his season with a podium in Abu Dhabi, will be filled with confidence ahead of his second season. The young pairing could be the catalyst for a new start in the history of the ‘Prancing Horse.’
