Max Verstappen is arguably on cloud nine right now. The Red Bull racing star is already a 2x champion and has many more years to come in Formula 1 and his Red Bull contract. What’s more? The Bulls seem like the clear leaders of the latest era of the sport. Naturally, the Dutch lion has his eyes firmly set on many records that he wants to break. He can easily become the most successful F1 driver ever if he and the team keep the trajectory they are on up.

However, 1996 F1 champion, Damon Hill has come up with a very bizarre demand. According to the ex-Williams driver, Verstappen should quit Formula 1! Hill was quoted as saying, “He should stop now, really. Stop now – he’s done it! You mentioned fun – I think that’s a very important point.” But why would Hill think so? Well, according to him, “Is he having fun, because I sometimes think he’s not having fun. I think you have to love what you’re doing, otherwise it’s a grind,” per Sky Sports F1.

On the face of it, this might make sense. Recently, F1’s plans for the future have hinted so, too. However, Damon Hill’s words were not welcomed so kindly by F1 fans on Twitter.

For many fans, what Hill suggested is just speculation. Verstappen, in all honesty, seems to be living his best life. His driving has been the most sublime we’ve seen from him, and he seems to be in a very happy place at the moment with Red Bull. Thus, the staunch disagreement from the fans.

For some fans, this seems like a case for British bias, too.

Do you agree with Damon Hill here? Max Verstappen arguably has more than a decade left in the sport, at least on paper. And if he decides to stick around, can he beat Lewis Hamilton to the title of the greatest F1 driver ever?
