Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo criticized Ferrari for failing to win a World Championship in over a decade. The Italian also highlighted the Scuderia’s biggest weaknesses. Furthermore, Montezemolo lambasted the Maranello outfit for throwing in the towel too soon in championship fights.
Ferrari: Montezemolo opens up on its weaknesses
Ferrari’s last World Championship came with Kimi Raikkonen way back in 2007. 13 years later, Ferrari still appears to be stuck at square one. If one could list the biggest problems plaguing Ferrari, the first reason that comes to mind is an uncompetitive car.

Ferrari has never had the most dominant car since its last Championship triumph. They’ve come close on several occasions but never quite made the step forward. It doesn’t matter who the driver is, without a good car, the hopes of winning a championship automatically disappear.
The second reason why Ferrari hasn’t clinched a title is due to their strategies. Fans mercilessly troll the Scuderia for its strategies or a lack thereof. However, it is a genuine cause for concern if Ferrari plans on ending Mercedes’ domination. The team rarely makes the right call and often loses out to the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull.
Finally, one of Ferrari’s biggest issues is its inability in handling two “number 1” drivers. The Scuderia lost the plot in 2019 partly due to the constant bickering amongst its drivers and the lack of unity. Team morale and performance takes a massive hit when the drivers aren’t on the same page.

Montezemolo echoed these words and highlighted where Ferrari could improve. Speaking to Speedweek, Montezemolo said:
“It annoys me that Ferrari has been without a title for so long. But it annoys me even more that we can no longer keep the World Cup open until the last races.
“it’s unfortunate. The main reason: lack of competitiveness of the cars, plus difficulties with stability. But we have other factors – the race tactics, the drivers”
“If you want to win in Formula 1, then all elements have to be perfectly balanced. Back then I managed to put together a great team with Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne, and Stefano Domenicali”

‘Ultimately, you need a little clarity in the distribution of roles in the team.
As Ferrari enters another season vying for the championship, the Tifosi grow impatient by the day.
