The 2021 season was the end of the total dominance of Mercedes in F1 as they only won the Constructors’ title while Lewis Hamilton lost the Drivers’ title to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The Silver Arrows are again looking forward to a bright future with their new driver, George Russell.

The German F1 team got the young Englishman from Williams F1 to accompany their ace Hamilton in 2022. The Briton is working hard with the team in the pre-season to face the upcoming challenges. Therefore, the young driver shared his thoughts on the new Mercedes car. He further stated what Mercedes should do for a successful season.

The 24-year-old driver said, “The first impressions of the W13 have been interesting.

“It is a very different car to the previous era and the characteristics of how the downforce is produced is completely different so we are still learning as we are going.

“There are still a huge amount of improvements to be made to bring everything together to make it as nice as possible to drive, which I foresee a lot of people being in the same boat because we are just learning so much day after day, whether it is in the wind tunnel or in the simulator.

“I think it is going to be a year of development. Everybody will want to go into the first race with the fastest car possible but what will be more important is understanding what your limitations are and how you are going to improve from those limitations to build the best foundations possible.” Russell further added to his comments.

The future of George Russell at Mercedes

Fans know that Mercedes is in the final season of the latest contract with their seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Furthermore, the British driver is in his late 30s and might only have a few seasons ahead. Therefore, the Brackley-based team needs a replacement to fill Hamilton’s shoes, and that’s where George Russell steps in.

George is undoubtedly one of the best drivers in the sport and can become a world champion in the future. Russell, after spending three seasons with Williams, joined Mercedesin 2022. This new team will give him the wings to fly towards a successful future.

Russell drove for Mercedes in the past, filling the vacant seat of a coronavirus positive Hamilton for the 2020 Sakhir GP. The young Briton impressed the Mercedes boss Toto Wolff in that race. Since then Wolff was eyeing to get Russell onboard in the Silver Arrows. Eventually, the dream came true because Russell is replacing Valtteri Bottas, who joined Alfa Romeo.

Currently, George Russell is working with the team for the upcoming 2022 season. He will soon take the 2022 challenger, Mercedes W13, for shakedown in Bahrain alongside Hamilton.
