The racing community is always excited about getting a new place to host a Grand Prix. FE (Formula E) sees India, more specifically the city of Hyderabad as a potential host to race in the upcoming season.

The state of Telangana has signed a statement of intent with Formula E to bring the all-electric championship to India for the first time, with a formal deal due in three months.

The inaugural race is said to be between the months of December 2022 and March 2023 on a 2.3-kilometer track overlooking the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, one of India’s largest cities.

Formula E CEO Alberto Longo and Agus Zomeno, who is the track overlay director, were present for the ceremony in the city of Hyderabad. Additionally, the team principal of Mahindra Racing, Dilbagh Gill, was attending the event as well.

As reported by Autosport, Longo said, “We are just announcing [Hyderabad] as a candidate city, but [it] is soon to be an official city in the calendar of Formula E. Let’s hope that that happens very soon and we can actually enjoy a race here in Hyderabad in the months to go. Hopefully, we will be here in the months of December 2022 and March of 2023.”

When was the last time the country of India hosted a Grand Prix?

Many are thrilled about the possibility of a Grand Prix weekend heading back to India after a long period of absence. The last time the country hosted a race was the Formula One Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in 2013.
