The 2020 F1 season has been nothing short of a cataclysm for Scuderia Ferrari. Having already disappointed the Tifosi enough during the first 6 races, they decided to kick the things up a notch in Spa.
What followed was two Ferrari cars finishing well outside the Top-10, in what was simply a shambolic performance. And sadly, according to team boss Mattia Binotto, it looks like their disaster-class isn’t going to end anytime soon, suggesting that they have already given up on the current season.
It almost looks as though Ferrari are resigned to their fate and would do anything for this season to finally end. Binotto was fairly straightforward in assessing his team’s predicament and revealed that he doesn’t expect any quick fixes.

He said, “How long will it take? I think that if you look back at all the winning cycles it is always many years. There are no silver bullets in F1. Patience and stability is required.”
Surely, even Binotto realizes that patience among the board and fans is wearing thin. But at least he is honest in admitting that it could take a very long time for the Prancing Stallion to find their way back to the top of the food chain.
However, whether Binotto will still be around as the team’s boss is a whole different story.

Although they haven’t explicitly stated it, even the Scuderia know that there is no point in salvaging the current season. However, Binotto insists that finding the root cause of their problems and solving it is necessary for success in the future.
Binotto said, “So what’s the plan for us? The main plan is focusing on the next seasons – not only 2021 but also certainly 2022. In order to do well in the next season, we also need to try to understand the weaknesses of today and make sure that we are addressing them.
“Last year, the engine partly covered the limits of the machine. But this year it is no longer the case. The limits of the machine are emerging. On that point, it is clear we must improve.”

But before things get any better, it seems like they might only get worse in the near future. With the next race at the ‘Temple of Speed’, Monza, the scarlet team may suffer big time due to the power crazy nature of the track.
Can they find a short-term solution to their ails? Or will it be more doom and gloom come the Italian Grand Prix? We’ll find out soon enough.
