A Ferrari engineer, Luigi Mazzola, is optimistic about Lewis Hamilton, and he has touted Hamilton to go down in folklore if he manages to win a Drivers’ Championship with the Prancing Horses. Since his debut in 2007, the 39-year-old driver has witnessed Ferrari, a legendary brand, win only two trophies: Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 Drivers’ Championship. A year later, they bagged the Constructors’ Championship, marking their 2nd trophy in the series. For 17 years, Ferrari has experienced underwhelming performances annually. Nonetheless, a former Ferrari engineer reckons star driver’s arrival might buck this trend.

The Mercedes F1 driver, after signing a contract with Ferrari that is set to commence in 2025, has changed the pinnacle of motorsport. This event is recognized as one of motorsport’s most unforgettable off-track occurrences. Amidst extensive controversy about Brit’s audacious and remarkable decision, former Ferrari engineer Luigi Mazzola is incredibly optimistic about it. Will next season be the season to break their Constructors’ Championship drought?

After a decade with Mercedes, the Brit will bid farewell to Mercedes at the end of the season, preparing for an exciting new journey. At 39, he highlights fulfilling his ‘childhood dream’ of joining the Italian team. On the other hand, during a lengthy live Instagram session, Luigi Mazzola, a former Ferrari engineer in charge of the performance and durability of F1 cars, shared his insights on Mercedes star drivers’ upcoming arrival at Maranello.

In a live Instagram session, Luigi Mazzola said, as quoted by FormulaPassion, “I think everyone wins. Starting with Hamilton. For a driver, going to Ferrari is always a plus, because everyone has great respect and a great desire to drive a red car. Should he win the world championship in 2025 or 2026 with Ferrari, they make a monument to him. But they make a monument to him in every square, in the municipalities of all the towns and cities of Italy, should it happen. For him it would be the eighth world championship, he would surpass Michael. He just has motivation to come to Ferrari.”

The former Ferrari engineer is remarkably upbeat about the seven-time world championship. He reckons that people will install Hamilton’s statues in Italy if he secures an 8th championship with Ferrari. However, the Mercedes man already has a wax statue in London.

The Mercedes driver holds the F1 record for the most Grand Prix wins, surpassing Michael Schumacher’s historical record. His unwavering driving style and steady performance have been instrumental. A wax monument is being installed at Madame Tussauds in London as an honor of his legacy. Furthermore, he actively participates in several charitable endeavors, notably the Hamilton Commission, which aims to improve diversity within British motorsport.

Since 2013, the Briton has been driving for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, building one of F1’s most successful partnerships. Apart from this, he personally donated the attire for his statue, commemorating the occasion when he dressed all-black for the first time. With this gesture, the Mercedes team’s demonstrated diversity campaign aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement.
