The screams of Charles Leclerc‘s dreams crashing down in the 2022 French GP probably still echo in the halls of Maranello. And now another radio incident has scarred the Tifosi with Carlos Sainz pleading during the Australian GP to not be given a penalty, to later call it the most unfair one in the history of the sport. While there seems to be no ray of hope for the team with the team’s luck now at par with the strategic blunders, Ferrari TP Frederic Vasseur has donned rose-tinted glasses to look past the forgettable season so far.

The Ferrari team that finished second last year saw a zero-point haul at Albert Park on Sunday. While Leclerc saw a lap 1 retirement, Sainz was handed a penalty during lap 57. And while these incidents may find the drivers in the wrong, Leclerc is absolving his liability as the team did them dirty in the first place. However, as admitted by the boss himself, the overall vibe of the Italian team remains positive.

Admitting that the result definitely weighs them down, Vasseur added that he is content knowing the Ferrari has made a step forward in terms of racing performance. As quoted by Motorsport-Total, he stated, “We want to build on that as the season progresses. In any case, I remain positive and will continue to put pressure on.”

Vasseur further added, “There’s a sprint race in Baku, so it’s a different weekend. But we’ll get updates later in the season. Now we’re preparing for the Grand Prix and we’re not thinking about damage.”

While the man remains positive regarding the underwhelming performance and progresses, he hasn’t reacted to the Sainz penalty situation in a similar manner.

Frederic Vasseur points at the differential treatment of the FIA following the lap 57 carnage

Frederic Vasseur stated that they have, in fact, filled out a review petition with the FIA. Moreover, he didn’t want to disclose any details because of the ongoing nature of the discussion. However, in a dejected manner, he did call out the FIA for not treating the other lap 57 crashes, including that of Alpines and Sargeant and de Vries, with similar harsh punishment.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Vasseur said, “The only thing is that about Gasly-Ocon, also Sargeant-De Vries, turn one, and the reaction of the stewards was not the same. What we can expect is to at least have an open discussion with them.”

He added, “Also for the good of the sport, to avoid to have this kind of decision when you have three cases at the same corner and not the same decision.”
