Carlos Sainz has extended his contract with Ferrari till the end of 2024. The Spanish driver had impressed everyone with his performances in his debut season with the Italian team in 2021. He even got the better of Ferrari’s Golden Boy Charles Leclerc in his first season.

So there was no doubt that he would extend his contract with the Italian team. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is also glad that Carlos extended his stay with the team. He further mentioned that the team has the “best driver pairing” in the sport currently.

Earlier, it was reported that there were some issues with the contract discussion. Many reports mentioned that the Spanish driver was not happy with the 1 + 1-year contract he was being offered. But now it has come to light that Sainz has a 2-year new deal.

Ferrari’s team principal praised Carlos after he extended his contract with the team. Binotto mentioned that the Spanish driver is a very hard worker and has an eye for detail. He even revealed that Sainz has helped the team to progress with the time that he has spent at Ferrari.

In his time so far with the team, he has proved to have the talent we expected from him, delivering impressive results and making the most of all opportunities. Outside the car, he is a hard worker with an eye for the smallest detail, which has helped the whole group to improve and progress,” said Binotto.

Together, we can aim for ambitious targets and I’m sure that, along with Charles, he can play a significant part in fuelling the Ferrari legend and will write new chapters in the history of our team,” said the Ferrari team boss.

It is indeed good news for all the Ferrari fans around the world that Carlos has extended his contract. He has indeed pushed Leclerc in his first two seasons and is currently helping the team in progressing their way to the constructors’ championship this season.

But it would be interesting to see if he can himself challenge for the driver’s championship in 2022. He needs to up his game against his teammate to challenge for the title. Can he do it? We’ll find out as the season unfolds.
