Incredible throughout the Las Vegas GP weekend, we can’t think of anyone who deserved the driver of the day award more than Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque secured pole position but with some apparent illegal overtaking maneuver was passed on turn 1 of the race. Despite being not fairly compensated for it according to some, Leclerc fought his way back to the lead. If it wasn’t for the untimely safety car, the Monegasque would’ve easily cleaned the slate on his unwanted record of not winning a race from pole position. However, despite his failure to secure a win, the Ferrari man wasn’t going to be satisfied with anything less than the consolation prize, and his late lunge on Sergio Perez proved that.
To add further awe to his incredible last-lap overtake on the Red Bull man, we have some data that will blow your mind as it already is for fans on social media. As we all could tell, the Monegasque braked extremely late to catch Perez napping in his surprise lunge and overtake him in the last lap. What our naked eyes could not see was the data behind it all, which in itself is mind-boggling.

The tweet reads, “Data for the Leclerc overtake on Perez on the last lap. Charles reaches 354 with slipstream and DRS and despite the +22 on Checo he brakes a few meters later (between 3 and 5). Instant deceleration Gs are to be taken with a pinch of salt but they seem to be more than 7.”
To simplify, Leclerc reached an incredible top speed of 354 kmph (220 mph), which was a massive 22kmph (14 mph) faster than Perez. Despite the extra speed, he braked later between turns 3 and 5, which resulted in a massive 7+ Gs on deceleration.
We cannot fathom the impact of 7+Gs sitting at home, but it is enough to knock a normal human being unconscious. This is exactly why the fans are in awe of the Monegasque.
Fans can’t believe the incredible data behind the Las Vegas GP last lap overtake by Charles Leclerc
To give you a better idea about the G-force effects on the human body, 4.1 Gs is enough to squeeze enough blood out of your brain and rush it to your legs which results in all colors being washed out from a person’s field of vision. Increase it to 4.7 Gs, and a person will see nothing but black; under 5.4 Gs, they will eventually lose consciousness.
F1 drivers experience up to 5 Gs every time they break and turn at high speeds. With all this information in mind, the Monegasque really did push the limits and floored the brakes to experience a force of around 7 Gs. This is exactly what the fans can’t fathom on Reddit.
