Ferrari seems to be the fastest car: Fernando Alonso
As reported by Planetf1, the 2-time world champion revealed that Ferrari being quickest is good news for Spain since Carlos Sainz is one of the drivers. He also mentioned that other than the Italian team, the world champions Mercedes look competitive and fast.
“Ferrari seems to be the fastest car, which is surely a surprise. For Carlos [Sainz] it’s great news and for Spain in general. Mercedes has also turned [out] fast,” said Alonso.
7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton too confirmed that Ferrari looks the quickest after the Pre-season testing in Barcelona. He stated that the extra time the team got to develop the car may be the reason for their performance in Barcelona.

“We could assume that Ferrari maybe didn’t develop their 2021 car very much and put everything into this year’s car. This could mean they could be several months ahead of the rest of the teams, but we’ll have to wait and see,” said Hamilton.

This is indeed good news for Ferrari fans if 2 world champions are recognizing their pace. But since it is just testing, it is hard to get an idea if indeed the Italian team is leading the pack in 2022. Both Alpine and Mercedes showed decent pace themselves and the latter could be a contender once again.
But we’ll get a clearer idea of the pecking order after the Bahrain Pre-season test. Hopefully, come the first race of the season, the Italian team can show their pace from testing and perform well.
