The only way to move away from negativity is by stopping being negative and eliminating similar thoughts. However, it’s easier said than done, especially in this highly critical world of Formula 1. In F1, everyone mostly focuses on the negative. Charles Leclerc got a brutal reminder of this scenario during a recent interview, and he did not appreciate that. In fact, after the mega achievement of the Ferrari man was discredited and painted in a negative way, Leclerc lashed out.
The Monegasque can’t catch a break. First, it was his disqualification from the 2023 US GP which saw him stripped of his P6 finish. Now, during an interview, Leclerc had to defend himself for a completely different scenario in the sport which many count as an achievement.

The 2023 US GP had the most disappointing outcome for Leclerc in his entire career, especially after securing pole position for the race. Leclerc lost the lead of the race before turn 1, but that was just the start of his misery. Leclerc was disqualified from the race on grounds of high plank degradation.
This scenario added to an unwanted static in Leclerc’s F1 career that the French media pointed out. The US GP was the 10th consecutive race in which Leclerc failed to convert a pole position to win. When this statistic was highlighted, Leclerc lashed out and said, “First we need to stop talking about this statistic, because it’s said negatively.”
Charles on French TV when asked about the statistics that it’s his 10 consecutive pole not converted into win: “first we need to stop talking about this statistic, because it’s said negatively, but it just means I’m doing a good job on Saturday”

He then highlighted securing pole positions is not a cakewalk and that it takes an incredible effort to be ahead of everyone on the grid, even if it’s over one lap. “But it just means I’m doing a good job on Saturday,” the 2022 king of Saturdays added.
Leclerc also highlighted how this is a recurring scenario because of the shortcomings of the car. In fact, he isn’t the only one who believes the Ferrari challenger is lacking in race pace. It’s common knowledge in the Italian team’s garage.

We are all aware there are some major shortcomings in the SF-23 that are holding the Maranello outfit back and they aren’t oblivious to this fact as well. Ferrari has major tire degradation, the most on the grid, which always hampers their race. The entire team, including the performance engineer Jock Clear, is aware of this scenario. This is exactly what he highlighted during his conversation with the media, and this is exactly the reason behind the difference in Saturday qualifying and Sunday races.
He said, “This is the problem we are trying to solve. We know where it is, but we don’t know how to quantify it. There is a big difference between what happens in ranking (read qualifying) and the pace of the race and we don’t know why the difference is so wide. Maybe we should sacrifice the rankings a bit, but it’s a very hard thing to ‘ swallow ’, because ranking is usually key to the race result, so we can’t afford to go further back. So finally the goal is to find out how to improve the race pace.” (Translated by Google)
